Every scene mixes several references. If any of them was made in a different look, it drags the whole frame towards that look — this is the usual cause of "I chose photo and got cartoon".

The signature look is what makes someone unmistakable in every frame (e.g. "beige straw fedora, grey beard, round glasses"). It is written into every prompt where they appear and used to anchor them in video prompts.
A photo is best. Re-shoot redraws the room in the current look at eye level, empty. Once the first scene in a room is approved, an empty set plate is built from it and every later scene there copies that plate.
